The story of this prophet of God inspires us with his courage, faithfulness and wisdom.
EPISODE #91
The Story of Daniel
ABOUT THIS PARABLE
- Concept: Like the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, the story of Daniel is one of faithfulness and courage in the face of oppression and death. In Daniel’s case, his circumstances were brought about due to the scheming plans of jealous Persian noblemen. And despite the love of King Darias for Daniel, he was committed to the lion’s den. There he is saved by a being from heaven. Was it an angel or was it an early incarnation of Jesus? Biblical scholars disagree. Regardless, Daniel’s story has inspired great acts of courage by people of faith for thousands of years. Acts of courage and faith by those around us still inspire us today.
- Story Origin: The Bible’s book of Daniel
- Setting: Old Testament Babylon
-
Precept(s):
- God does not forget the faithful.
- As King Darias learned, acting out of pride will rarely bring good results.
- As the nobles of Persia learned, scheming and deceit can backfire spectacularly.
- Our courage and commitment in the face of trials and tribulations bring honor to God and inspire those around us. This is still true today.
- Key Bible Verse: Daniel 6:16 So, the King gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lion’s den. The king dais to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!”
