EPISODE #97

The Far Side of the Fence

Do we own things, or do things own us?

ABOUT THIS PARABLE

  • Concept: A man is walking by a city park surrounded by a tall, iron fence. At the base of a tree, he spies a handle protruding from the ground. Reaching through the fence, he pulls a metal box from the ground. But no matter how he tries, he can’t get the box through the bars of the fence – but neither can he bring himself to let it go.
  • Story Origin: Original
  • Setting: A city park
  • Precept(s):
    • Things will appear along our path that seek to ensnare us.
    • We must have the wisdom to let go of that which has entrapped us.
    • Do we own “things,” or do they own us?
  • Key Bible Verse: Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
